Hi Dragan,

As a fellow immigrant, I totally agree with you. I live in NJ, just accross the Hudson river from New York City and the differences are indeed abismal between the two regardless of their proximity.

Imo, the US isn't a single country, like you say, but a bunch of different ones sharing a single flag. One ongoing joke my cousin and I have is that the best thing about living in Florida is how close it is to the US.

And Food is a touchy subject. That's the one thing I miss the most from Venezuela, and I'm not talking about typical food, just regular food here is absolutely tasteless - how else can you explain the proliferation of steak sauces in this country? South of the border you just put salt on a piece of dead cow, put it on a grill and you have food. Here, you have to marinate, condiment, say a few prayers, put it on the grill and stil need to drown it in sauce if you want it to taste like SOMETHING.

Now, just so I can justify this message being part of the topic, I think lawyers are generally mis-trusted universally, especially when they're on the oposite side of the person making the statement.

>>The book makes clear to me that there are quite more cultural differences between the Dutch and the Americans (more specifically, the U.S. citizens) than I realized.

>Living here for six years I've come to believe that there are four countries within the USA: California, Texas, New York City and The Rest Of It.

>>What exactly would you expect of citizens from two different countries?

>Both the differences and the similarities are in the places where you least expect them. Comparing my people with the US, I was surprised to realize how deep we share the love towards good barbecue, and then how our definitions of a good one differ :). Same goes for beer.
