Bruce,

>>I'm getting used to Explorer now, but I'm still grumbling about the lack of a dialog box as File Manager has, and there's no way of knowing whether you're moving or copying without memorizing key functions. This is contrary to the movement toward all-mouse functionality. There should really be a 'Move' on the menu.<<

Ok, this is actually quite simple. There is a given set of rules of how things are done when dragged with the left mouse. Same drive, you get a move, different drive, you get a copy, or if you are only moving an .exe file, a shortcut will be created. You can override these defaults by pressing a key - such as the ctrl key to force a copy - while moving.

However, MS made it much easier. If you use the left mouse and drag, when you let go, you get a menu, with the appropriate choice from above in bold. If you simply start using this button, you will never have to worry about moving when you want to copy, etc. I almost never use the left mouse anymore.

>You're right, I just tried it in DOS. But then back to my argument as to why didn't MS retain the dialog if there was no good technical reason for not doing so?<<

As I just pointed out, they did.

>> And how about the ability to open more than 1 window in Explorer, while I'm at it?<<

Why? Just open another copy of explorer and drag from one copy to the other. NBD. Oh, well, I guess you do lose the ability to tile the two explorer sessions like you might do in File Manager.

You can also select one folder and see the items to the right. Then on the left panel, just click on the +/- keys. The desired destination folder can be displayed without changing the files displayed on the right. This way you can display c:\flder1\flder2\flder3\*.*, then go to the left panel and by just clicking on the +/- (not file names) find the desired destination folder while still seeing the flder3\*.* stuff. Try it.

>>I'm usually (I think) a state-of-the-art guy, and most users here (including myself) are very happy with Win 95, but are not happy with the Explorer.<<

I am finding that those who actually spend the time to learn how to use it are not having this problem. I used to agree with you until someone mentioned that I might RTFM. Now I am a very happy camper.<g>

>>There, now I feel better having purged some gripes...(I know, there are worse problems on the planet!)<<

Hey, purge away. <g>
