During the final week of the training, I got my speed up to 45WPM or so (crypto - and crypto was easier because you didn't try to read it), and then never used it again. 40WPM was enough for a pass. Once we had a corporal try to have us copy at 60, and you could just hear the pencils dropping... most of the guys quit at 40, few of us managed to get up to near 50, and by 60 we were just staring at the guy. And he actually put the key between his hip and the desk and did 60WPM like that. In the end he said "I knew you don't have it... I'm keying with my butt and you still can't copy".
