>Was going to pick these up for a friend of mine to stay up with her daughter when she was playing outside, but then I see that it requires an FCC license. Why? Are they all like this? It's only $40 bucks with a 5-mile range. What would you need a license for?

http://direct.motorola.com/ENS/Web_ProductHome_FV200R.asp?country=USA&language=ENSCB Radios used to "require" a license too, but no one purchased them so they dropped the requirement. I've got a pair of rechargeable radios we used at night so our officers could talk to each other on warrant attempts. We could also hear the gangsters talking on them too. I use these same radios when hunting. I don't have a license, nor do I intend to give the government any money to squander in this regard. Buy the radios and worry not!
