>I have never used a thermometer in an application before. (I know, I know, you could say something really nasty here . . . but resist the urge and read on) - I need to run it against a process that takes about four minutes. What's the best way to accomplish this?

I would reccomend updating the progress bar relatively often so the user knows something is happening. If the process is not a loop that does the same thing X number of times (but instead one big process) then I would update the progress bar on key places in the process. In my oppinion it is also better that the last couple of interval take a shorter amount of time (it just makes the user happier), instead of the last 10% of the progress bar takes about 50% of the total process time (some installs drive me nuts when they do that).
