A very mild rebuke, if that at all. I felt you fairly summed up the company's position but didn't mention John's. This was a failure of the company to meet John's needs not the other way around.
As for the "strong feelings", by reading John's narrative it's clear he has some himself. My take on it is that the acceptance that his employer was incapable of meeting basic minimums for a decent relationship resulted in a real bummer (another strong feeling) so he very justifiably decided to move on rather than continue in misery (yet another strong feeling).
Most importantly, he says he's happy with his new job. I hope this rolls over into his personal life.
