Two factors for you to consider for your next bike ride. For one, each dollar invested into the VS/.NET and VS/.NET marketing has a far higher return on investment than the same amount put into VFP (product and/or marketing). Second, Microsoft's strategy is development on the .NET platform, so anything in terms of promotions, free versions like Express, etc. will be done for .NET and SQL Server. As for reporting, the message from Microsoft is to upgrade from SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server 2005 Express up to SQL Server 2005 which includes SQL Server reporting services, or use a non-Express version of Visual Studio 2005, etc.

VFP got some mentions in the LINQ story, but I wouldn't call that marketing of VFP. If you read the VFP Roadmap doc, read my monthly letters, read and listen to the interviews online, you'll see that the developer tools roadmap is to stabilize VFP 9.0, created add-ons for VFP (Sedna) that allow better interoperability within VFP to other products and technologies, and to use VFP 9.0's great extensibility model to build new components (Xbase tools, SET LIBRARY TO..., .NET/COM interop, etc.). The roadmap for Visual Studio and .NET languages (especially VB) is to leverage as much ideas and features from VFP and other products to greatly enhance the data-centric programming as well as productivity features in future versions of VS on the .NET platform.
