>Want to get opinions on the near future of Web (Client/Server) development. Do you think we will be going the route of Java/J++ or stay more towards HTML/ActiveX?

My option:

The Web is only a transition to come back where we were before, which is a desktop application, but being live on the TCPIP stack as you'll have in the Universal Thread Client.

ActiveX as no future, it's only a gadget to impress people.

Java is like when comparing VB to VFP. You need a database system on the net, then you'll use a database engine as we are using it now with VFP.

Client Server will keep its place as we can use it now with VFP or other database engine.

Socket programming is the future.
