John,
In my server testing calls to an EXE take about twice as long as calls to a DLL. This is only significant though if you anticipate lots of calls into the server, and in our case for a real-time system we anticipate peak hits on the order of 200 calls/second with steady state around 20 calls/second. A P2-300 class machine under Win95 can make on the order of 500 calls/second when you actually do something like table access.
>Ooops --- let me correct my technical terms here: DLLs are in-process while EXE are out-of-process....regardless, there still is no real advantage.
>This will also make the application run a bit faster.
