Word of mouth is (as far as I'm concerned) the BEST way. Some developers market themselves to other developers a speakers at conferences, which is another way. Other friends who are also independent developers is another way; they might need to subcontract out some of their existing workload.
I'd suggest asking your current customers if they have any referrals, people that they think might have need for your services, etc. A name, number, and reference can make a huge difference in getting the opportunity to speak to people who might need your help.
