Tracy:
Thanks for the reply. Problem solved inbetween trick-or-treaters. After another call to Cox they decide to send a tech. The tech tells me my dated Toshiba modem cant handle the system upgrades that Cox has done over the years, says i would be getting intermittant drops in internet access. Which is exactly what was happening. Something about a QAM setting on the modem. So i pulled out the new NetGear router and put back the Linksys. (Port forwarding on the Linksys is much easier)
I do have a WRT54GS and am pleased with it so far... after setting up WEP and specifying a MAC address for a notebook that is. Viewing and playing my neighbors ITUNES catalog added to the fun.
>Do you also need a broadband router? I would jump to a wireless such as the Linksys WRT54GS. It can be purchased for as low as 59.99 at Walmart and average price of around 79.99. It comes with 4 10/100 LAN ports and a 10/100 WAN port. It can share a single internet connection with wired, wireless G and wireless B devices. All ports are auto MDI/MDI-X (though Linksys doesn't mention this) which means they'll auto figure out how to connect to whatever you plug in, including switches if you decide to expand the number of ports.
