Hi guys - we're getting a similar problem with one site in particular and it's never been reported by anyone (of our users) before and we have over 1000 sites.

So far I've noticed two particular issues with VFP printing:

1. Page Header contains reference to an available but not currently selected field (eg Company.email), and it doesn't print out unless the detail band has already occurred at least once (preventing this info printing on the first page of an invoice run for instance) - yet other fields from the same data source print OK - that's real weird problem # 1

2. Real weird problem # 2. Printing from print Preview screen causes some records in the detail band to be skipped, affecting the totals based on those records as well! There are no relations, there is a filter on the underlying table (on empid and type, 2 numeric fields). This is driving me nuts, as I can't replicate it here using Brother, HP, Epson drivers, whilst the site in question is using really horrible Konica 7145 and Panasonic drivers (same problem using either as default printer - preview works just fine, printing from preview causes records to be skipped in the detail band (the same records each time too which is interesting)). Printing direct (not via preview) works fine too. Just can't make it happen using any drivers we've tried here - might try installing the Konica driver to see what happens here. We've struck Konica printers before, and it seems their low-end "PCL only" (without Postscript onboard) interface cards suffer from buffer overflows...just so you know. However, that's not the problem in this case.

I'm sure it comes down to a problem with the VFP Preview and print software internally, which means there's bugger all we can do about it except hope someone will fix it. I've read comments from other VFP pro's out there that say VFP stresses the system in ways word and excel don't and expect that to be taken as a useful answer to printing and other problems - I don't accept that as a reason - I do expect a solution from Microsoft.

I could rave more, but in essence it should be that we can print to any old printer driver and expect output just as you would from Word, Excel, Printer test page etc. BTW, at risk of raving again, why the heck would print output be sent to the first tray on a laser if the report was laid out as A4 and the print tray contains A5 - this too drives me nuts, as Word, Outlook, printer test pages etc send A4 sheets to the A4 tray - just one more @#$%ing issue I guess.

Anyway - hope it helps.

Matt
