>>Ahhh, very interesting! So there WAS an Argentinian connection after all. You know, British military history is FULL of monumental blunders by the commanders. It's a wonder we ever managed to capture the Isle of Wight, never mind an empire!

>There are many of those. I guess if you asked about British military blunders the first three that would come to mind (to me at least) would be Gallipolli, The Charge of the Light Brigade and maybe Khyber Pass. But as you see there are many more around. What would be the first few that come to a Brit mind?

Well:
- The WHOLE of the Somme campaign for a bloody big first!
- The Battle of Paschendale
- the Battle of Ypres (in fact - any damn battle in that war!!!)
- The Battle of Spion Kopje (Boer War)
- The fall of Singapore to the Japanese (to my mind the men would have been better off fighting on to the bitter end than how it turned out. Who knows - they may even have prevailed)
- (I think I've heard in the past) The failure to press on with the BEF in WW II to protect Norway (as I recall) and maybe halt Germany in its tracks

Many more that I haven't the time to think of at the moment.
- Whoever said that women are the weaker sex never tried to wrest the bedclothes off one in the middle of the night
- Worry is the interest you pay, in advance, for a loan that you may never need to take out.
