>I have uploaded URL's to the VFP in General Section >in the Files Area for my 1998 Devcon Sessions. This >stuff includes samples on Automation and ADO. Thanks for uploading it. It's nice to have a peak of something that was presented at Devcon. It seems some people (stress the word 'some' and obviously excluding you John) that presented/attended/sponsored Devcon would rather be able to say "Nah, nah, nah, you didn't go and you can't have anything or share something we learned there. We are an exclusive, snobbish club." How many of those people/companies offer help to strangers on Usenet or UT? If everyone had a snobbish and greedy point of view, Usenet and UT would not exist. Heck, without public assistance, VFP would possibly have ceased to exist because of the learning curve ... too few sales. (There aren't a whole lot of developers now and we see Microsoft's lack marketing support for VFP.) I like the philosophy and the method of conducting business of comapnies such as Visual Basic Programmer's Journal, Wrox Press, and West Wind Technologies much more then Advisor magazine. These exceptional businesses use the philosophy that sharing a little knowledge will eventually make you our customer and make you an ongoing customer. Go to the Advisor web site and the only thing they have is the Editorial. Would it be so bad if Advisor would share some of the seesion material with the public, after the fact. In a recent post, someone asked for program code that was in Advisor magazine but that Advisor magazine had no more diskettes\CD's to sell. Big deal if Advisor posted it on their site. They aren't going to sell something they don't have so they can't be loosing money. Although we hear VFP is a powerful web site tool (obviously ... look no further then here on the UT), I've had to change development platforms because much of the info was buried at Devcon. Although I've developed xBase since dBase II, I am abandoning it for a heavy database web application because of a lack of information about VFP and the web. I guess those companies that have developer tools in VB for the web will get my dollars now. I have nothing to show web hosting services that VFP is made for the web. And a quarter page blurp by Microsoft isn't enough proof to a web hosting service ... or myself. Refusing to share a little knowledge for free isn't only greedy and selfesh, but a poor business decision. If more people\companies would have shared what was learned at Devcon instead of being part of an exclusive club, maybe VFP would have more "converts". With more "converts", obviously the disposition of VFP would become stronger. The stronger disposition of VFP would increase sales for all VFP developers, Devcon sponsors such as Advisor, and speakers. Maybe some people that blame Microsoft for poor marketing of VFP should look at themselves first. Thanks again for uploading your Devcon stuff.
