I wouldn't worry too much regarding UI object new JARs, Beans etc. are
popping out all the time and the Java UI capabilities keep on progressing
as for data managment there are several technologies , JDBC, Enterprise
Javabeans, RMI, Java IDL, infobus, servlets and several others
some combination of them will be a descent way to manage data and middle
tier objects- IMHO though not all these technologies are fully there yet
In fact, today one of the best ways to access data in java is VJ and ADO -
but hten you are tied to windows again...which it seems to me you want to
evoid
