>>But I guess that most progs that begin with "Previously on ..." could be termed a serial. ER, although generally different crises each week, does have continuing storylines, like the TEDIOUS details of the various affairs of your compatriot, Luka.

So you've never watched ER? Luka isn't actually Serbian - rather Croatian I think, and he's a doctor, one of the main chars. He'd lost his family in the Yugo wars.

>>Sure, you don't see Teleplay in the listings, rather just "Drama", but it's ofetn in the credits at the end: "Teleplay by ..."

>Mmm... I thought the word denoted the text, when it was specifically written for a TV drama. May have been wrong.

>In Serbian we use word "bioskop", which was actually the name of a French company from 100 years ago or so, which was the first established movie house, not a travelling show. They didn't last, but the word remained.

As I said in another branch of this thread, it's also called "bioscope" in SA.
>>The OR is called "Operating theatre" from the days when surgeons used to demonstrate their technigues to students in-the-round, with banked seats, in like a theatre.

>Seen those in a lot of movies. Even those depicting surgeries as of just a dozen years ago. They probably still exist in some medical schools.

I used to be a trainee radiographer, in an old hospital in Liverpool. I used to go up to the viewing gallery in the OT and watch the odd op. It was like looking down through a glass-bottomed boat.

Incidentally: US - UK differences again for your records:

US - anaesthesiologist, UK - anaesthetist ("gas man" is what the staff call him)
US - physical therapist, UK - physiotherapist (or physio for short)
- Whoever said that women are the weaker sex never tried to wrest the bedclothes off one in the middle of the night
- Worry is the interest you pay, in advance, for a loan that you may never need to take out.
