>>>I must admit, I'm not much of a 'roots' person. If there is any hope for humanity, as far as I'm concerned, it's not in emphasizing our differences, it's in assimilation. Someday when (if) we're all king of a grayish brown and speaking esperanto, the world may finally be a place where we can all get along.

>>But our differences are what make us interesting. I want to see a world where we can along and respect each other's differences .

>So do I. That's why I added that caveat that it's not a place I'd really want to live. BUT, I don't see a world where everybody respects everyone else's differences coming along any time soon. In fact, while I'd find it a horribly depressing way to live, the only way I see such peaceful co-existence happening is through the total assimilation of all people.

Depend whether you look at the big picture or the small. I live in a community where people come from a variety of backgrounds, races, religions, ethnicities, and whatever else you can think of. It's a warm, caring place, where we work together to raise our children. I grew up in another such community.

It can happen, but it has to happen in the small before it will happen in the large.
