I think they will become obsolete in near future,
with rapid development of flash drives and HQ rewritable CD's.
We are actually planning to go for CD backup in the near future.

But these drivers are a real PITA, you have to be very careful if you have it installed on your local computer. If you install a new tape with data on it, your computer will busy reading the tape for several minutes.....! I installed such a driver on my computer a few years ago, and I removed it a few minutes later.
