It's not that long ago that those factors would have meant that you couldn't go anywhere you want. The government (especially the courts, which conservatives love to malign) has played in big role in reducing (I don't think we can say eliminating yet) roadblocks for non-whites, non-Christians, non-men, and others.
I don't disgree with your statement. And you're not stating anything I/we don't already appreciate. I know that millions of brave men and women have die and suffered for this country.
