Hi Ric,

That does speed things up considerably, but still 6-8 seconds per directory. It's simply instantaneous when the (apparently) same dialog is used through other programs like VFP, SnagIt even with the old setting.

Strangely, too, I went and did this while having your message up here and as soon as I clicked "Apply" and again later when I clicked OK on the same dialogue the UT page went blank and I had to do a Refresh to get it!@!#@$!#@ It baffles me why MS interlinks apparently disparate software 'tools'.

Anyway, I'll leave it that way and see if I lose anything.

cheers

>Open 'My Computer'
>Go to Tools | Folder Options . . .
>Click on the View tab
>Uncheck the first option on the list (Automatically Search for Network....)
>Click Apply, then click Apply to all Folders
>OK out of the dialog.

>>>A lot of our workstations are having this issue. When you pull up a dialog box to switch directories, the box pops up quick, but when you click in the "look in" part or click the little arrow to switch to a different directory, it takes like about a whole minute before it pulls it up to switch. If you pick one you can then change to others doing it again and it is ok, but when you have not done it for a period of time, it does the delay again. Does anyone know why this does this and anything I can set to make it quit doing this?
