Yeah, I get that behavior when changing that setting - it is crazy!!! Apparently it resets the session object in IE

I have not figured out why the delay exactly, but it seems to be correlated to correct drive mappings, service pack levels on client and server, and anti-virus software. Also, there seems to be a fix at http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;839883&spid=2488&sid=global specifically to XP and Office 2003, and here is one specific for Windows 2000 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321126
