Also, there seems to be a fix at http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;839883&spid=2488&sid=global specifically to XP and Office 2003, and here is one specific for Windows 2000 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321126

When you pull up a dialog box to switch directories, the box pops up quick, but when you click in the "look in" part or click the little arrow to switch to a different directory, it takes like about a whole minute before it pulls it up to switch. If you pick one you can then change to others doing it again and it is ok, but when you have not done it for a period of time, it does the delay again. Does anyone know why this does this and anything I can set to make it quit doing this?

I looked for such setting and that does not show up as an option in my list. I'm not sure if it is because we run Novell for our network that the option didn't appear, but for the sake of trying, I did a reset all defaults and then just added back the 'see hidden files' and it seems OK now, few seconds, but way better than a whole minute.
``` Appreciate a normal day, it is always better than a bad one ```
