This literally went on for two or three weeks. Painstakingly examining their hair with a nit comb and a bright light twice a day. Increasingly desperate treatments, starting with all the OTC medicines at the drugstore, then a fairly pricey prescription, then mayonnaise (that was disgusting), then kerosene. The kerosene was recommended by our pediatrician, who said it is the standard remedy for head lice in Israel. Some of the boys' moms got together and decided to shave their heads. (The Hair Club For Men, I called them). My wife caught it, with consequent quarantining of all concerned, if you know what I mean. It was a complete nightmare.

I remember, in school, we used to get visits from "Nittty Nora, the Nit Nurse", with her ice lolly stick. Back in the day you could cure them with her potions but nowadays the little buggers have evolved into resistant strains. It seems to be a bi-annual battle in our house.
