>Sure the result is all that you say it is, but the work involved is major. At the end of the day, you are talking about a complete rewrite.

A full rewrite of the application interface, but not a full rewrite of the work the application does. And unlike John the original poster here, we're not looking doing this all ourselves. Major parts my application development I'll sub out, inhouse we'll be responsible for salvaging the report processing from SQL selects to views the main app will call and for the database management. This allows me to have less inhouse resources for the project, but my total budget alot higher.

I have no clue what your getting at here Marc. The evolution of my product is well defined as a 3rd generation FP app, with the step to VFP also being one to client server. Plus I only presented this as a conversion project comparison for John see that a good deal of planning and rewriting is required in taking an app from 2.6 to 5.0 if you want to improve the app's capabilities, but you can still salvage existing work in some situations.

And thanks for your well wishes for what it's worth, but I have no doubt that I'll have this project complete by this time next year :) That's what nice about having the corporate budget behind ya!
