I also suggest looking at the properties for Objects. There are a number of color control properties you can control. Combining the properties with what you learn from Drew's examples, hopefully you can find a solution. This is a tough one for me so good luck! (s)

as Tom, said thre are Drew's examples, also a couple of days ago
Greg cummings (sorry if I misspell) offered a grid class that controls the colors, and another option u look at the article I wrote for the April Issue of FPA, one of the things the class described there does is setting the color for selected records
just one comment though, it sounds a little odd that u don't want any visual hint as to what record is selected..
