>>>It's been about 15 years for me. Not that I haven't been stopped, but I've usually managed to talk my way out of it. <g> I haven't even been stopped in about 5 years, and I've been driving 'Vettes for 4 of those. Must be some other reason...

>>Maybe you guys don't have as many of those bloody speed cameras as we have. I got a 42 in a 30 just last June - my first in over 10 years!

>They're just starting to come into use (at least out here in Arizona) for speed traps. They have been used in low speed (like your example) residential areas, but are just now being used on the freeways. They're mainly used for areas where red-light running is prevalent.

>And even in the areas that have them, they don't always have cameras in them. They have a limited number of cameras, and they're rotated between the sites periodically, or they're in mobile vans. They like to keep you guessing. ;)

Used to be that they might not have any film in them, and sometimes you'd see the bobbies changing the film. SO sometimes they'd flash but not get you. But now, what with dig. cameras, there's no to, just download the images and reuse the memory. The one that caught me was just where the road goes from 40-30. They used to be a sneaky grey colour, but now, due to public outcry that they're just revenue getters for the local councils, they're bright yellow, with camera signs on them, and there are preceding signs warning of them.

Ironically, I knew of this but I was heading into light fog (rare) and, not having used the fogs on my car, was so concentrating on finding the controls (PT Cruiser - with weird positions for many controls) that I sailed through it.

I'd thought of using this excuse in mitigation but I think the concept of hurltling into fog a 42 anyway would have counted against me :-)
