Metin;
I had some acquaintances when I was in the military, who fought side by side with Turkish soldiers in Korea. The Turks had two classes of soldier – volunteer and drafted. They were paid differently. Volunteer soldiers were treated harshly.
The Turk’s were very good at night patrol. They would slit the throat of the North Korean or Chinese soldiers, and cut off both ears. The ears of the dead enemy were strung and worn around the neck by the Turkish soldiers as a badge of honor. My acquaintances thought very highly of the Turkish soldiers.
A volunteer in the Turkish army at this time did not make enough money to buy a pack of cigarettes. Sergeants would beat them for any reason. Again, drafted men were not treated in this manner. Have things changed with the Turkish army. If so, how?
Now if what we hear is true, should the Kurds in Iraq become an autonomous nation and Turkey and Iran attack them, how will that make you feel?
