A security issue when using a file-sharing server
Hi
I'am facing the following situation:
- a Novell server used as a file-sharing server where all the DBF's are located
- over 80 workstations that must have full access to the DBFs (almost all of the workstations are running WinXP Professional)
At the moment every workstation has full access on those DBFs which are mounted (mapped) as a drive on each computer (G:); so, practically anyone can go to the drive G: and do whatever he wants with all the DBFs (delete, modify with other programs).
I was thinking on using the "Run as" option and setting up my application to run as a different user (a user that has full access on the drive G:) than the one that is currently used to logg into Windows and will not have access on the drive G:.
Isn't there any solution in adding some security (from the Windows' point of view) on the G: drive?
Thanks
