Hi Dragan,

Haven't you ever manually created a restore point in Windows XP using Windows Help, System Restore? It is important to disable system restore before cleaning a virus in antivirus software because the virus could be backed up with the restore point. I use it after I install a major update to any app on my system. I manually create one before and after (overkill I know).

System Restore typically can backup and restore:

Local user profiles
Windows File DLL Cache
COMM+ database
the registry
WMI database
IIS Metabase

Anti-spyware programs, anti-virus programs, Windows XP system restore, etc. There have been numerous times when our users have set their registry back to a previous date/time which did not include the settings in their registry for our app (and other apps as well that were installed since or their settings changed since the last registry backup). It was just too much of a hassle.

And when the framework was already using it, again, why not - but then this was for applications where users weren't likely to keep anything important there (mostly visual preferences - last sizes of various resizables etc) and weren't really switching machines that often.
