The defining difference here is no none in the US is put to death for changing
religions, and no religious leader in the west has the authority to tell a couple
with 3 kids & married for 11 years that they are no longer married over a dream.
We have rights that protect us from that sort of nonsense.

There is a huge difference between social issues like gay marriage and islamic
clarics deciding someone must die. It's one thing for a religious leader in the US
to say 'Homosexuality is wrong and we condemn it' than for an islamic cleric to
rule that someone must die.

As far as the Catholics; I agree completely. What 2 consenting adults do is
their business so long as it does not infringe on the rights of others
which is far different that the islamics, who have legal authority to decide
what you can and cannot do in the privacy of your own home.

This 'tidbit' as you call it is just another example of the harsh and oppressive
Hitler style control that we have been seeing over and over. We see these things
over and over and any rational person would question this belief system.

Remember the Taliban? Women in that country had no rights at all. This is freedom?
Who in their right mind would decide to follow this kind of religion. Those that do
decide to leave are put to death. Where do you see that in the west?

While I might believe in the rapture, I'm not going to fly an airliner into a
building or strap on 50 pounds of explosives and blow up a busload of people

life because you wanted out, or if they told you your wife of 11 years she must spend
a night with another man. This is flat out criminal.

If you want to label something 'over the top', take a fresh look at what these
radical clerics impose upon the people they rule over. I'm not sure how can can
compare the differences in opinion such as homosexuality and the like found in
the 'west' and the life and death decisions made in the name of Islam.
