Kind of like a tourist or a conference attendee. Being a carpenter, on the other hand, He may well have taken a high paying job away from an honest citizen.

Well, technically, He didn't steal it. He took it, but the owner did wind up giving it to him. The bible doesn't say there was any coercion, but it doesn't say there wasn't either.
