>>I spent a weekend there. Coming into Oxford (on BritRail) was a sight unlike any I have seen before or since. All those spires. It was like entering a medieval city. Time slowed to about 1/2 speed. Paddleboaters drifting by on the pond. Lovers kissing languidly on green grass. I felt like I was in a dream.

>Hence the "dreaming spires" (I kick my wife every time we pass Oxford and she mentions them). Gone all poetic on us, Mike?

>However, I'd liken Oxford more to Renaisance Italy than medieval England. However, British Rail - NOW you're talking medieval! :-)
