I'm not sure how accurate this is, but according to the wikipedia:

The VVD is a more conservative liberal party, and is comparable to the German FDP. It is more similar to the British Conservatives than the Liberal Democrats. In the United States it is similar to centrist and liberal Republicans, like John McCain and Rudy Giuliani.

I don't know how any party can be compaired to John McCain though. John McCain is a republican who holds many democratic beliefs. He can swing hard right and back to hard left on any given subject...
