http://www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-ico1.htmInteresting. A passage in there reminds me of the lyrics of a song. I don't know if you knew the British soul group (actually from Liverpool) "The Real Thing", from the 70s/80s. They had a big hit (still heard in discos to today) "You to me are ev'rything". Well they gaffed a popular expression in one of the lines, so that it rhymed, but no-one I know has ever picked this up, and I don't know if they realise:
" ... If it takes forever Girl, then I'm prepared to wait.
The day you give your love to me won't be a day too late"
Of course the expression is "won't be a day too soon". The implication, therefore, is that he
could care less for her love :-)
That URL also mentions "Tell me about it". While we're on that where does "Bite me" come from?
- Whoever said that women are the weaker sex never tried to wrest the bedclothes off one in the middle of the night
- Worry is the interest you pay, in advance, for a loan that you may never need to take out.
