>Interesting. A passage in there reminds me of the lyrics of a song. I don't know if you knew the British soul group (actually from Liverpool) "The Real Thing", from the 70s/80s. They had a big hit (still heard in discos to today) "You to me are ev'rything". Well they gaffed a popular expression in one of the lines, so that it rhymed, but no-one I know has ever picked this up, and I don't know if they realise:

>Of course the expression is "won't be a day too soon". The implication, therefore, is that he could care less for her love :-)

Here is one that has always interested me. I'm convinced that it has been corrupted over time, but of course, I can't prove it was ever different.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Seems to me that the only possible way you can eat it is if you have it. There is no doubt in my mind that it must have started out once upon a long ago as the much more logical

You can't eat your cake and have it too.

Thoughts?
