Are you able to see the contentplace holder when u open the page in designer view for the first time?
If yes then prob it is somewhere in the page only.

Anyways you can always add a contentplaceholder from the tools menu and delte existing ones too.
Try to place it in one of the columns of the table.
Once done you can add controls too.
