Well it seems pretty clear that it was an informer, but only few know the real truth.

All I was saying is that it's a win only situation to announce that it was an imformant 'close to him and/or al-Quada'. It can only spawn suspicion within, which has to disrupt them.

Whether that came from crack intelligence, the type that has seemed lacking in Iraq, or from informants is not known and may never be known. The early money seems to be on an informant. And my personal guess is it didn't have anything to do with collecting reward money.
