Hi Kevin
I am far, far from being even a good VFP developer, and my skills are humble. However, 3 months of pretty much full time effort and study with C# is enough time to understand the scope and breadth of the product. If you took 3 months off to learn golf, you wouldn't be a competitive player, but you would know enough to understand the level of effort required to win the US Open. You could then decide if it was better to stick to shooting snooker.
All factors considered, VFP is a faster design to delivery development platform than .Net for desktop applications. Is some of .Net pretty neat? Heck yes. Is some of .Net more "ivory tower perfection" oriented that practical? Heck yes. Will I stop working with C#. Heck No. Would I like to work with better tools? Yes, if the tool keeps my shop competitive in the market.
Will I put a bread and butter project that pays the rent on .Net/SQL when I am bidding a price competitive contract. Hell No!
Regards
Don Lowrey
