>Will I put a bread and butter project that pays the rent on .Net/SQL when I am bidding a price competitive contract. Hell No!

1) For a bread and butter project, .NET can use numerous data back ends. The StrataFrame framework will hook up to Fox data, Access data, VistaDB, SQL Express, MSDE etc.,

2) How on earth could you consider using .Net/SQL in a price competitive contract where all your experience is in VFP and none in .NET - of course you couldn't - you don't have the .NET/SQL skills to make you efficient enough to compete. But that isn't the fault of the tools - that's just your lack of experience of them.

3) I quoted for "price competitive contract" work in VFP/Codemine all the time. This combination was fast and RAD. I can tell you right now that I am equally, if not more productive using C#/.NET/StrataFrame. It’s a myth that VFP is automatically more efficient for building small desktops applications than .NET. It all depends on your experience, and the tools, libraries and framework(s) you choose to use - just like in VFP.

4) I note from other places in this thread that you have had some experience of the MM.Net framework. I can tell you that when I first evaluated that product, I was amazed that a commercial .NET framework couldn't generate a strongly typed business object, nor did it have the means to generate stored procedures or similar. The amount of coding that MM.Net requires makes you question its efficacy. If you are basing some of your conclusions on your experience with MM.Net, if you have some spare time, you should look at something like StrataFrame which allows you to put .NET applications together in double quick time, with many RAD gadgets and gizmos. It also has a "Database Deployment Toolkit" that will allow you to deploy all of your data structures to remote sites, instigate changes to data structures and data content, whether you know/understand SQL server or not. I know this sounds like an Ad for StrataFrame but the experience is so different to MM.Net, it should not be overlooked.
