Unfortunately, I'm putting that down to general ignorance of the public. They were willing to put blind trust into their gov't. Never believing that the govt of the USA would pursue a path of launching a war using fabricated evidence, attempting to subvert the laws of the gov't, etc.

I always thought when I read stories of how dictatorships were formed, that those types of things could never, ever happen here. Not I'm not so sure.

By the way, I firmly believe the war in Iraq was stupid on several fronts. Not the least of which is that we were setting out to accomplish something in Afghanistan that we never did because resources were diverted. We now have 2 big quagmires now.
