Besides, although it may be a high crime rate where you are I guess the bad guys don't go after cops, if nothing else, for fear of reprisals. I don't think eitrher cop or soldier can enjoy that luxury (2 Brit soldiers have been killed since starting their recent tour), so what chance a "retired nerd" (your words)?
