If the dollars are right, I may go over for a one year vacation. You have to remember I live in Memphis, TN - the third most dangerous metro area of the country. We've already had almost 90 murders this year, so it wouldn't be much different that being here. I'm told I might also carry a rifle and a .9mm instead of my usual two .40 caliber automatics!

>Besides, although it may be a high crime rate where you are I guess the bad guys don't go after cops, if nothing else, for fear of reprisals. I don't think eitrher cop or soldier can enjoy that luxury (2 Brit soldiers have been killed since starting their recent tour), so what chance a "retired nerd" (your words)?

This nerd is "packin"! Funny you should say that about crooks don't go after cops. A few months ago, there was a story in the local paper about some cops who were chasing some bad guys after a shooting at a local thug haven and one of them had the good sense to check behind him, only to see other thugs with guns chasing them. They called for backup! Memphis is a war zone and the leadership has their collective head in the sand.
