If he's behind a separate firewall (and anyone on broadband should be) that won't help.

He definitely should know how to do this so he can set up port forwarding as required.
However, if that's already been done and he's just dealing with the issue of his dynamic IP address changing, whatismyip is about as easy as it gets.
