I think they got it wrong. Their god probably had every intention for making the sex a pleasure, or why else would he or she designed the homo sapiens capable of doing it a few thousand times if it was really needed only a dozen times on the average? I think the joy of sex is a feature, not a bug. The behavior is by design.

It's been so in all ages... even then you could hear "ah the youth of today - you can't tell male from female anymore". The viruses were just so confusing they must have presented too much of a problem to officially include into the ship's manifest.
