>>>>Let's just start here - do you believe these word from Jesus' mouth? John 14:6-Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
>>>
>>>OK. If His words were recorded verbatim I can accept the vast majority "Blessed are the .. " Sermon on the Mount - fantastic.
>>>
>>>As for that last bit ... don't go back there Howard, I beg you. We've expended gigs of bandwidth arguing that one out!
>>>
>>>I also have problems with the Virgin Birth and Jesus' being the corporate son of God aspect (for aren't we ALL children of God, and didn't He more often say "son of Man"?)
>>
>>You say that if His words were recorded verbatim - you accept that - but do not accept the John 14:6 passage - why? I'm just trying to understand how you know which of His words to ignore and which to believe.
>
>I don't know if, and very mnuch doubt that, His words WERE recorded verbatim, esp. given the long time delay between utterance and pen. I accept Jesus to have been a very clever, passionate, loving, caring, etc., etc. superlatives, man, with some very interesting, intelligent, sensible things to say to guide us through life (Let's face it - back then life was cheap and people were running each other through or crucifying each other over a whim).
>
>What is the John 14:6 passage? I haven't a bible to hand like you (OTOH I don't need to consult one, or to go and see "the elders" to make decisions on my life)
>>
>>I'm also a little puzzled why you would believe parts of the Bible and not other parts? Again, how do you know which ones to believe. Is it the ones that seem reasonable to you that you believe?

It's the one you didn't want to discuss about Jesus being the only way to the Father - that was recorded as being His words - verbatim. I don't want to discuss the meaning of that (because you don't) - just want to understand why you would choose to ignore that one and accept others.

If you don't mind - let me ask you another question or two...how did you become a Christian? Were you baptized as a child and believe that was it - or - was it something else? What benefits do you expect to realize by being a Christian?
