It depends:) Generally for me it's easier/faster to read/write/understand my own code. Sometimes I simply don't understand what OPC (other people's code) is doing just because it's awfull. If it's not awfull code for the job then readability isn't much of a concern (mostly personal it's).
If I know the writer and 'sense' the code is already a master piece I try to understand the code just as a 'training' for myself (and might use it w/o trying to understand:)
