Hi, Alan,
Yes, "Time Enough for Love" and "Stranger in a Strange Land" are two of my favorites. I don't know much about Heinlein personally (other than the fact that he was a military man). My favorite sci-fi authors are Heinlein and Zelazny.
I'm embarrassed to admit that I've never read anything by Phil Dick. I'm taking a week off in August where I'm doing nothing but reading (non-computer material!) and listening to bop until my ears bleed, so I might check out one of his books. I just read some of the Amazon reviews of "Altered Carbon", that also sounds like something worth reading. Thanks for the tips.
Different subject, I discovered two Cannonball Adderley albums called "Cannonball Plays Zawinul" and "Cannonball in Europe". Holy smokes! Bop on steroids. There's a 13-minute track on the former, called "74 Miles Away" - stunning. Who said it can't be Christmas on July 22nd? ;)
Oh, and I almost forgot - you recommended Tom Harrell to me. I got hold of "Art of Rhythm". It's very good. A little more laid back than what I normally listen to, but the playing is immaculate. I read his bio, he's come a very long way.
