>>>Remember what I said: the results won't belong to the people, as no tax money will go straight into research. It will go in roundabout way, through at least three channels (Medicare plan D, protection of overpriced drugs from competition from abroad, and later through the much higher price of the end products), but that'll all be proprietary. Your genes will eventually be owned.

>>Whatever you do, do not invest in the companies who are actively working in biomedial fields dealing with stem cells. Just keep bitching about how the government should fund everything.

Take a good long look at the incredible advancements being made every day in the private sector. Everyone should be in on it. There are opportunities to get involved with anything you want.

Stem cell research? A quick search will show you a dozen public companies in the US alone. A couple of which are working on embryonic chains.
Electric car? Dragan was kind enough to post about the Tesla vehicle and the private company looking for funding.
Global Warming? A quick search will show you numerous companies working on coal stack filters and other items to improve air quality.

My solution is to look to the private sector and put your money where your belief, passion and mouth are.
