>Look, if Monsanto could get that farmer to pay dearly because his soybeans got crosspolinated with their plants (although they didn't actually belong to Monsanto, who only sold the GM seeds to the guy who owned the next field), don't be surprised if blah blah blah really happens.

It seems that the Canadian Supreme Court can't decide what precedent they want to set with regards to genetic modification. The Monsanto case resulted in no damages but established the patent on the seeds. Then there's the Harvard Mouse case where the Court decided against patenting a geneticly modified mouse. Put it this way. There is plenty of precedent set against the owning of human beings. I'm willing to jump out on that limb and say "Our genes will never be owned."

You may.

>>Take a good long look at the incredible advancements being made every day in the private sector. Everyone should be in on it. There are opportunities to get involved with anything you want.

>So why does so much of publicly funded research end up as bringing profit to a certain few companies? We ARE involved by paying taxes, where's our share?

We agree here, but for different reasons. I don't think the government should be spending so much money in the private sector. I think the government should focus on infrastructure, security and education. Leave the rest of it to the private sector.

BTW: It isn't a "few" companies. Do a google search on "government grants subsidies". A quick scan of the sites that came up showed more than 150,000 grants and subsidies offered between the American and Canadian governments.

>>Stem cell research? A quick search will show you a dozen public companies in the US alone. A couple of which are working on embryonic chains.

>So then it's not murder regardless of what mr prez says? Or is it murder only when financed by our tax money, but not if we invest directly? You surely got me confused here.

When did I ever say it was murder? I agree with the president's veto because I don't want any government spending on it. I have no moral objection to the research. In fact I encourage it through investment.
