>>>Hmmm, I just learned something new. I was not familiar with that technique, so Googled it. That turned up a virus named about:blank. Now I see many of you prefer to start with a blank page. Sorry for not getting it the first time around.

>>I can't speak for everybody, but for me, it's really a throwback to dial-up connections. Everybody's pages took so long to load, that I just decided to go with a blank page. That way, I didn't have to wait for the browser just to load, and only spent time waiting for pages I was trying to surf to. I suppose it matters less now with broadband, but old habits dies hard.

>Thank you for the additional insight. I hadn't thought of that, either. I was a pretty early adopter of broadband (like when it was a good day if it didn't go down once....) so have a hard time remembering dialup connections. At this point I am so spoiled I would no more go back to dialup than have the proverbial vat of boiling oil dumped on me.

>Oddly enough, I still remember with some clarity my first PC connectivity. It was via a 300 baud modem, which was state of the art at the time. When Hayes came out with a 1200 baud modem it was considered a great leap forward.

Yeah, I still have my old Apple IIe with it's 300 baud modem. Of course, back then, all the BBS's were strictly text, so it didn't seem so bad.
